James Cameron Before Avatar
A very inspiring video talk on TED from Cameron.
Avatar: Would You Be Welcome?
What an incredible movie, based on the obvious premise that mankind is destroying Earth and needs to find a way to survive. Unfortunately, it involves destroying yet another planet/universe of energy-sensitive beings (not the fossil-fuel type of energy) who have learned to live with their world and not destroy it to survive.
It is interesting that the sound of the Na’vi-Otsekai language is very Native American-like and their connection to the land/jungle/mountains as well as the animals is also similar to our indigenous peoples. James Cameron took his time conceiving of the Pandora universe and setting out to produce the film only when he had the right technology to back him up. The ending is a bit of a “deux et machina” in that Jacksully gets to stay only because he can slip his inner being into the manufactured Na’vi avatar body, however, it does not detract from the overall concept that everyone got what they deserved based on their true self.
